Can the Blades Cause Another FA Cup Football Betting Upset?
The FA Cup fifth round takes centre stage this weekend and with many Premier
League sides already out of the running, some football betting upsets look
to be on the cards.
The big four are of course, all involved still although at least one of them will
be missing in the sixth round, with Manchester United and Arsenal meeting at Old
Trafford on Saturday evening.
Arsenal have taken the initiative in the Premier League in recent weeks, opening
up a five point gap over United as Sir Alex Ferguson’s men faltered, not least
last week as Manchester City caused a football betting upset on in an emotional Manchester
derby.
The Gunners on the other hand, are in red-hot form but there are rumblings that Arsene
Wenger may decide to field the more youthful “cup” team this weekend,
which might lower the value for some football betting fans?
But is that a bad thing? After all, Arsenal’s youngsters managed to reach the
semi-finals of the Carling Cup before meeting a Tottenham team playing like men possessed
and the football played by the likes of Walcott and Denilson is certainly on a par
with that of their more senior teammates.
Home advantage and the expectation of a full-strength starting eleven makes Manchester
United favourites for this one, as are both Chelsea and Liverpool although both can
look forward to easier games in their respective ties.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool face lower league opposition this weekend and it will
take the sort of football betting upset that will go down in FA Cup folklore to prevent
them reaching the sixth round.
Liverpool welcome Championship side Barnsley to Anfield whilst Chelsea also face
a Yorkshire side in the form of League One outfit Huddersfield Town.
Barnsley, who have beaten Blackpool and Southend to reach this point, will however
take some confidence from the last time that the sides met, with the Tykes, then
in the Premier League, snatching victory at Anfield courtesy of a strike from Ashley
Ward.
Football betting punters looking for an upset could do worse than look at Bramall
Lane where Sheffield United looking to impress new manager Kevin Blackwell against
Middlesbrough following the sacking of Bryan Robson yesterday. The Blades have already
disposed of two other Premiership sides, Manchester City and Bolton and the club
with top-flight aspirations have the ideal platform to showcase their credentials
on Sunday in front of the BBC cameras.
Preston are another interesting bet against Portsmouth on Sunday. Despite their lowly
position in the Championship, the Lancashire side have improved considerably in recent
weeks and after putting four past Derby in the previous round, they’ll be confident
of causing another football betting shock.
This season’s road to Wembley, for one reason or another, has already left
behind a number of big names and with some interesting ties in the weekend ahead,
