Horse Racing Betting Fans Warm Up for Cheltenham with Racing Post Chase

After the recent scare with Kauto at Ascot last week, horse racing betting punters will be keen to focus on the weekend’s action, the pick of which comes from Kempton.

The Racing Post Chase takes centre stage this weekend as trainers and horse racing betting punters cast one eye towards the upcoming Cheltenham Festival and the three miles and 18 fences of Kempton will provide a strong test ahead of March’s festival.

The race itself, which it certainly doesn’t hold the prestige of other races or attract as many online horse racing bets, does provide an insight into future big winners if history is anything to go by.

Since it was first run in 1988, this handicap chase has seen two winners, Rough Quest in 1996 and Rhyme ‘n’ Reason in 1988, go on to career wins in the National whilst the event has also brought on two Irish Grand National winners, one Welsh National winner, and one Whitbread Gold Cup winner. Three others have progressed to career wins at the Cheltenham Festival.

But will any of this weekend’s winners go on to bigger and better things in the coming year?

Gungadu is one name that stands out as being a particular favourite amongst horse racing betting punters.

Paul Nicholls’ one and only entry has won four of his seven chase entries with one second-place also to his name and after winning three-weeks ago, he is a relatively short-price favourite to claim a win on Saturday.

Ungaro comes in at second favourite after a second and two thirds in his last four outings and a chase record which has only seen him finish outside the top three on two occasions from eight outings.

Away from those two, the form looks quite difficult to judge – inconsistency could definitely play a part but the horse racing betting odds on many runners has shortened and drifted after a series of withdrawals, including David Pipe’s Madison du Berlais and An Accordion to allow them to focus on Cheltenham.

But regardless of the withdrawals, we’re all set for a great weekend of racing as Cheltenham looms ever closer. Make sure that you don’t miss out by placing your online racing bet with Blue Square today!
