Champions League Football Betting Returns to Blue Square
Champions League football betting is back on the menu this weekend as Liverpool,
Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United all fly the flag for Britain in Europe’s
top club competition.
The football gets underway on Tuesday with Chelsea and Liverpool both in action.
Chelsea are in Greece to face league leaders Olympiacos in what is the first meeting
between the sides in European Cup history.
The Blues go into them last-16 match as favourites to qualify to the quarter finals,
but the first leg will be far from the easy tie that some football betting fans may
be predicting. The Greek champions are unbeaten in their last four home Champions
League ties, with their last European defeat at Karaiskákis Stadium being
a 1-0 loss to Roma in October 2006.
Chelsea however, are also in the kind of form that will appeal to the football betting
fraternity.
Avram Grant’s side are unbeaten in their last six European outings and are
one of only three sides, Barcelona and Manchester United being the other two, who
remain unbeaten in the competition. The Blues are also without loss in all competitions
in 15 games, their last defeat being a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on December 16.
Liverpool on the other hand, face a much tougher task in a tie that offers some good
value for football betting fans.
Steven Gerrard, Jose Reina, Javier Mascherano, Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Aurelio are all expected to return for
a match that could make or break Rafa Benitez’s Anfield future. But even the
return of some star names after Saturday’s FA Cup loss to Barnsley may not be
enough to do what only Fenerbache have managed to do this season – beat Inter
Milan.
Inter sit unbeaten at the top of Serie A, are through to the semi-finals of the Italian
Cup competition, are unbeaten in the last five Champions League matches and offer some
terrific value for football betting punters.
If you are placing your football bet on goals, you could also be betting on a landmark.
Inter are one goal short of scoring 500 in European competition; Liverpool need two
to reach the same milestone.
On Wednesday, the remaining British sides are in action and immediately after the
draw, the Gunners may have rued their decision to rest players against Sevilla in
the group stages.
Their loss to the Spaniards has handed them a draw with the other Milan outfit, AC
Milan and needless to say, the Premier League leaders face a mammoth task.
Milan have struggled of late however and with the loss of Ronaldo to what looks like
a career ending injury, Arsenal fans will fancy their chances against Kaka & Co.
Football betting fans will be pleased to know that the Gunners will be back to full
strength, Emmanuel Adebayor included, for Wednesday’s tie following the 4-0 FA
Cup aberration at Manchester United.
United themselves are in action in Lyon and have arguably the easiest tie of the
round. Lyon are unbeaten in the competition since their 3-0 home loss to Rangers
in the group stage but United should have enough to come through this tie.
Looking for a football betting shock, then Celtic’s tie with Barcelona provides
as good a chance as any.
Whilst the Catalan giant should emerge from the tie with little incident, Celtic
Park is not an easy place to play. Gordon Strachan’s men are unbeaten in nine
at Parkhead and on Barcelona’s last visit to Glasgow, albeit Ibrox, they were
perhaps thankful to escape with a point against Rangers.
So with a weekend packed of European football betting action, make sure that you
don’t miss out and place your online
football bet with BlueSQ.
