African Nations Great if You're a Football Betting Fan - Not if You're a Premiership Manager!
For many Premier League managers, it’s the bane of their life but for
football betting fans, the African Cup of Nations provides fifteen days of
thrilling action.
Forty-three English-based players will represent their nations in this tournament
and it isn’t just Harry Redknapp, Arsene Wenger and Avram Grant who are being
affected.
Thirteen of the 20 Premier League club’s have been hit whilst Watford, Stoke,
Nottingham Forrest, Leeds United and even Accrington Stanley have all been affected
by the much maligned tournament.
But regardless of what the managers think, for football betting fans the next
two weeks will provide plenty of thrills and spills as 16 teams do battle
for African football’s top prize.
The host nation Ghana top the football betting markets but will have to overcome
some pretty strong opposition to equal Egypt’s record of five titles.
Chelsea’s Michael Essien is the midfield lynchpin for the Black Stars and along
with Portsmouth’s Sulley Ali Muntari, Fenerbahçe’s Stephen Appiah
and Ahmed Barusso of Roma, the Ghanaians boast a midfield that wouldn’t look
out of place in a major European tournament.
But the Ghanaians won’t have the midfield battle all to themselves.
The Ivory Coast go into the tournament as second favourites, attracting a large amount
of interest from football betting punters and it’s easy to see why.
In the Toure brothers, Kolo of Arsenal and Yaya of Barcelona, the Côte d'Ivoire
have the defensive credentials whilst up front, Lyon’s highly rated Kader Keïta
will team up with Chelsea duo Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba – the football
betting favourite for the top scorers tag along with Samuel Eto’o.
Cameroon are a name that always attracts interest from football betting punters,
based primarily on the presence of Eto’o in the starting line-up whilst Mali
are one side who are attracting a lot of interest as a potential dark horse.
The side known as The Eagles failed to qualify in 2006 but did finish fourth in
both 2002 and 2004 so if their supporters have ‘one of those nights’,
then they’ve got the players to take advantage.
British fans will be well aware of Frederic Kanoute and Liverpool’s Mohamed
Sissoko whilst Mahamadou Diarra of Real Madrid certainly has the big-game experience.
You can certainly count on a lot of managers complaining about the loss of players
in the coming week but with a feast of football betting over the next fortnight,
you can have no complaints with the great football
betting odds from Blue Square!
